‘Finding Yourself In The Work’ - A Photography Crit Event Hosted by Andrew Piccone and Paolo Jay Agbay - Saturday, May 10, 2025

Philadelphia photographers Andrew Piccone and Paolo Jay Agbay invite you to join a group critique event this May at the Bok Building. Called ‘Finding Yourself in The Work’, experienced photographers will come together for a morning of critique and conversation about their photography, their goals, and what their next steps are to get them there.

From co-organizer Andrew Piccone: “Getting our work offline and up on the wall for critique is unfortunately a rare event these days. Paolo Jay and I were wanting to give folks a chance to take their photos off the computer, sit down with photographers bringing new and different perspectives to their work, and have an opportunity to engage and get feedback.” Agbay adds - “As photographers, it’s easy to get stuck in our own heads, overthinking one photo, one moment when really, there’s a whole story unfolding around us. I’d love to offer feedback and support to other artists who might be feeling a little stuck or uninspired, and help shift the way they see things. Sometimes a fresh perspective is all it takes to fall back in love with the world we’re documenting.”

The event will take place in a private studio space at the historic Bok Building facility in South Philadelphia. Prior to the event, participants will submit 30 images from their portfolio to be printed in 4x6 and hung up for discussion. Critique prompts will be shared ahead of time, probing photographers to contemplate why they were drawn to this work in the first place, and what they would tell their younger selves about their photo journey.

About Agbay and Piccone:

Andrew Piccone is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based artist working in photography and painting. His work focuses on family structures, and their relationship to their environment. He’s self published several photo zines and one photo book, and has led photography workshops at The Halide Project. He graduated from Moravian College in 2008 with a BA in Photojournalism.

Born in the Philippines and raised in South Philly, photographer PJ Agbay uses the camera as a tool for connection—building trust and telling honest, human stories that go beyond the frame. His work blends editorial and documentary styles, often shot on film, and centers around food, portraiture, and community moments. In 2023, PJ was named one of Diversify Photo’s “Up Next” photographers. His work has been published by The New York Times, Food & Wine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and featured by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Whether he's shooting on location, mentoring young creatives, or creating space for conversation in his Bok studio, PJ leads with intention, curiosity, and care.
